Development of multifunctional nanometallic particles by Sonoelectrochemistry

SELECTNANO’s main objective is to manufacture new metal and transition metal nanoparticles for dedicated new applications, using a novel process, namely - SONOELECTROCHEMISTRY.

Sonoelectrochemistry is a new emerging technology .This technique combines electrolysis and sonolysis.

The sonication horn serves as a cathode for the electrolysis process and as a transducer releasing US (UltraSonic) waves.

Short electric pulses are used in order to reduce ionic species and deposit the nanoparticles on the cathode. This is followed by US pulses which causes the nanoparticles to disconnect from the electrode.

The nanoparticles will be further developed into stabilizing matrices such as colloidal dispersions using surfactants and polymers, than applied into new applications such as:

(i) Multifunctional printing; (conductive labels and information coding based on a printed pattern for security purposes; (ii)nanostructured metallic coating ; (iii) sized shell structures for controlled release of encapsulated active materials; (iv) molecular diagnostics and bio separations ; (v) high intensity color pigments; novel cosmetic ingredients; Nanoscale conductive structuring materials; Novel coating additives
